National PTA, the nation’s largest child advocacy association, currently has an opening for an Accounting Manager at our national headquarters office located in Alexandria, VA. The Accounting Manager reports to the CFO and is responsible for all areas relating to financial record keeping and reporting.
This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements are produced each month. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit and tax preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
The Accounting Manager will support senior-level Staff and the CFO which requires strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years accounting experience in a firm or in a non-profit environment, a bachelor’s in accounting and strong customer service skills. A CPA is desirable but not required.
Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”) and, specifically, non-profit GAAP.
Experience with Dynamics GP or another large automated accounting system a plus.
Strong skills with Microsoft Office products.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Accounting from an accredited university
CPA or CPA candidate highly desirable
5+ years of experience as an accountant in a public accounting firm or non-profit organization
