Washington Metropolitan Chapter Community Associations Institute (WMCCAI) seeks an experienced events manager. This is an exempt, professional position with responsibility for planning and executing events for a regional association.
SUMMARY OF KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and executes events ranging from 25 to 2,000 attendees, including:
Major events - conference and expo, golf tournament, awards dinner.
Networking events - happy hours, special events and charitable service projects.
Manages trade show including exhibit sales and coordination of vendors and exhibiting companies.
Develops and monitors a $700,000+ annual events budget.
Working with the Education Manager, coordinates venue and logistics for all education programs.
Plans, sells, and tracks sponsorships for events.
Negotiates with and works with facilities and vendors to ensure all events and program specifications are met and events are successfully executed.
Prepares evaluations, signage, posters, and other necessary event materials.
Serves as the staff liaison for the conference and expo, education, golf, and chapter events committees.
Manages staff, interns and contractors, as necessary.
Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional designation, such as CMP or CAE.
Three to five years of experience, with at least two years of responsibility for planning and carrying out programs for an association with high interaction with volunteers.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service skills, and verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with need for minimal supervision; ability to handle multiple overlapping projects with extraordinary number and level of details.
Ability to work with volunteer committees, accept ideas from others, and maintain delineation of staff and volunteer roles.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (CRM, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends to staff program offerings and provide own transportation to meeting sites in the Washington Metro area.
Physical ability to move moderately heavy boxes and materials.
