The American Society for Microbiology (ASM), a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington DC, is seeking an Assistant Director, Membership Services in the Membership Services Department. The incumbent would be responsible for management of membership operations, including development and implementation of member recruitment and retention strategies.
Bachelors’ degree in Marketing, English or Communications; graduate degree in Business or Marketing preferred; science training and/or education a plus
Minimum 7-10 years in association management or sales and membership programs directly related to association management
Proven experience in strategic membership growth, provide content to inform promotional copy, direct sales, and direct mail
Requires highly developed research skills with demonstrated strength and drive for excellence in membership functions
Direct experience with membership acquisition/retention
Excellent facilitation skills
5-years supervisory experience
Ability to be innovative and creative
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities at once
Prior contract negotiation and contract management experience
Familiarity in web analytics tools (i.e. Google Analytics), social media marketing applications (i.e. SocialStudio, etc.) , and bulk email marketing tools (i.e. bluehornet or mail chimp etc)
Familiarity with CMS or AMS systems
Proficient in MS Office
Successful experience supervising staff, budget development, financial management and analysis, short- and long-range and planning
Outstanding speaking and written communication skills
Superior customer service skill set
Ability to travel
