Interacting with the Board of Directors • Working closely with the Association President, the Executive Director is responsible for developing Board meeting schedules and agendas, maintaining Board minutes and records, carrying out plans and programs of the Board, initiating programs for consideration by the Board, and advising the Board.
Membership • Provide leadership to and oversee the staff and volunteers as they work to retain existing members, enhance the diversity and expand the size of the membership. Also, the Executive Director will oversee those activities necessary to maintain effective member relations and meet member expectations.
Programs and Services • Responsible for the effective delivery of programs and services to members and, as appropriate, to the public at large. This includes web content, publications, special events, and fund raising opportunities. • Implement the current strategic plan and leads the process for the next strategic plan.
Fiscal Management • In concert with the Board, outside auditors, and financial staff, ensure the efficient preparation of financial statements. • Contribute to the development of organizational budgets • Demonstrate an understanding of the monthly financial reports
Foundation • Contribute to the development of annual fundraising plans • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual and institutional donors • Contribute to the development of fundraising materials, including appeals, proposals and reports • Speak at fundraising events
Advocacy • Participate in advocacy activities including assisting the President in communicating the association’s position on industry and public issues. Supervisory • Directly manage team within Association Management, IT, Marketing and Finance departments of Fusion Marketing.
QUALIFICATIONS • A Bachelors’ degree from a well-regarded college or university is required; an advanced degree in law, business, public administration or related field is highly preferred. A demonstrated commitment to continued professional development is expected (e.g. American Society of Association Executives or Certified Association Executive designation). • Leadership: possesses and demonstrates leadership qualities including presence, vision; leading and managing department leaders, staff and volunteers; while at the same time deferring recognition to the volunteer Board of Directors. • Board management: experience working collaboratively with a volunteer Board of Directors. • Volunteer organization experience: appreciates the value of voluntary organization structure and operating techniques; proven ability to motivate and utilize staff and volunteers. • Management experience: diverse and broad general management experience; strong human resource management skills; has effectively organized and managed diverse teams of people; familiar with general labor and employment laws.
