This is a professional position in the Component Collaboration & Resources department in which the incumbent is responsible for overseeing and managing all internal and external component communications, including but not limited to e-newsletters, website content management, presentations, social media, and other initiatives as assigned. The incumbent also will serve as the primary point of contact on information management resources for the components. This includes identification of information that is timely, relevant, current and accessible. He or she will work with Product Strategy staff, media relations, volunteer leaders and components to develop a consistent and effective information sharing platform and processes. The position reports to the Managing Director, Component Collaboration & Resources.
Lead communications efforts for department.
Manage, write, edit and publish component communications, including but not limited to E-newsletters, website content, blogs and listservs.
Write and produce biweekly communications for component and volunteer leaders, gathering relevant and time-sensitive information from AIA staff and other resources. Work with AIA Content Governance to ensure the E-newsletter complies with AIA Editorial standards.
Manage component webinar schedule and develop tools as needed to improve outreach efforts to components. Requires proficiency in online video editing software.
Ghostwrite or edit articles, memos and emails to support national component staff communiqués to CACE.
Manage Lyris distribution lists for component communications and supervise maintenance of the CACE and Presidents’ Lyris listservs.
Suggest ideas to improve component communications and develop new opportunities.
Monitor component websites and social media as it pertains to components.
Work with AIA Media Relations to develop media strategies that assist components. (Example: USA Today)
Maintain and distribute Component Calendar of Events and checklist of key dates and deadlines.
Information Resource Management
Work with AIA Research staff to develop periodic departmental surveys, such as the Component Profile Survey and the All-Volunteer Component Presidents Survey. Provide support for the development and analysis of the survey.
Develop and manage internal information resources and processes to support component communications.
Manage web content for My Component so it is current and accurate including On Demand access to resources. Update, revise or remove content in a timely manner. Track and analyze website metrics as they relate to component communications.
Track and analyze website metrics as they relate to component communications.
Actively solicit feedback and input on the quality of the content, the usefulness and accessibility of the information platform, and the breadth of the information resources.
Assist with communications and information resources for Centers for Architecture.
Develop component/corporate partnerships as they pertain to outreach.
Manage the annual Component Excellence Awards program.
Assist on special projects as assigned and with other communications and information resources for other programs on the tea.

Considerable skill in written/oral communications, negotiation, diplomacy, team building, collaborative problem solving, conflict resolution, volunteer management, and systems/process development. Outstanding interpersonal communication skills a must. Strong writing and editorial background a plus. Ability to interact with individuals with a diverse background at all levels of the organization (volunteer leaders, members, staff, and visitors). Project management experience a plus. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management skills. Success in prioritizing duties, retrieving information, tracking projects and maintaining schedules. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Skill with Microsoft Office. Knowledge HTML and website content management system is preferred, but not required. Skill in video editing preferred.
This position may require you to participate in social media to support the department goals which may require you to create a profile on social media sites that includes your name and personal image as an avatar and identifies you as an employee of the American Institute of Architects. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications/Marketing or related fields and three to five years of association management or related professional work experience.
Some travel required.
