Craven County, which owns and manages the Convention Center, is seeking an engaged and gifted marketer who is a customer-service driven leader to oversee a state-of-the-art facility that draws visitors from all over to participate in a variety of events. A successful track record and portfolio of skills in event planning, marketing, pre-post event analysis, staff supervision, and budget review are essential. The Convention Center is both a showpiece and an economic driver in this community. The next Director will focus on crafting a plan to ensure the convention center maintains its state-of-the-art reputation, is a viable competitor in the region for events, creates guest experiences that are delightful, and is a driver for tourism and economic development in the community. Achieving these goals requires excellent strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and effective outreach. Reporting to the Assistant County Manager, the Convention Center Director oversees a budget of $1.4 million and with a staff of 18.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Business Administration, Public Facility Management Administration, or related field. Certified Facility Executive (CFE) is desirable. Five years of experience as a manager of a convention, trade or conference center with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Residency within the County is required within a negotiated timeline.
