Supports and advances the Florida Realtors public policy purpose to protect and advance the interests of the Florida Realtors members and Florida consumers, while improving the business environment in which Florida real estate licensees operate and compete. This position manages the Public Policy staff, and the activities within Florida Realtors public policy efforts on a state, national and global arena. Works with the Board of Directors to develop, plan and execute the Association’s strategic public policy initiatives. Recommends and builds strong collaborative relationships with related industry and community organizations to support the Association’s public policy initiatives. Supports and complements the Association President as primary Association spokesperson on public policy, and acts as government liaison and principle lobbyist.
Proposes the long-term direction, activities and positions on public policy issues for Florida Realtors.
Influences and represents Florida Realtors with high-level government officials, political leaders, influential organizations and other relevant leaders to realize and elevate the Florida Realtors cause in the public policy arena.
Plans, organizes, coordinates and controls the lobbying and political influence activities of Florida Realtors.
Assures review and analysis of legislation or regulations having an impact on the real estate business and develops supporting data for Florida Realtors policy decisions.
Identifies, recommends and supports the development and maintenance of collaborative relationships with related industry and community groups to advance the Association’s public policy goals.
Identifies, coordinates and oversees research needed in areas that support Florida Realtors positions or interests.
Is fully aware and educated on the impact of national and international trends affecting Florida real estate, and engages as needed and directed in global activities to benefit the state of Florida and Florida Realtors.
Ensures direct and positive contact with the members at all levels of the Florida Legislature, Regulatory Agencies, Cabinet and other governmental officials.
Ensures direct and positive contact with the staff members at all levels of the Florida Legislature, Regulatory Agencies, Cabinet and other governmental agencies.
Ensures the timely production and distribution of legislative reports, bill analysis and publications.
Promotes member involvement in political activities, programs and seminars.
Establishes direct and positive contact with Local Association Executives and members involved in public policy activities.
Plans, organizes, coordinates and controls administrative support of the Realtors Political Action Committee.
Oversees the legislative contact program.
Establishes positive contact with the media on Florida Realtors legislative, regulatory and political issues, and supports the President as official spokesperson for the Association.
Maintains Group operations within the approved budget.
Provides adequate management team support to committees and that committee decisions, motions and recommendations are forwarded to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.
Establishes positive working communications of mutual respect with the following:
Members of the Florida Legislature, Regulatory Agencies, their staff and appropriate governmental officials.
Leadership of Local Associations and the Florida Realtors.
Association Executives of Local Associations.
Appropriate personnel of the National Association of Realtors.
Management Team of Florida Realtors.
Supervisory Responsibilities –
Manages the activities of Association’s Public Policy staff, including establishment of responsibilities, performance standards and evaluations.
Employees are effectively managed, motivated and receive the support needed to perform their position responsibilities.
Annual performance evaluations are completed objectively for all employees.
Performance/disciplinary problems with employees within the Public Policy office are addressed in a timely manner and follow the disciplinary guidelines of the Association.
Knowledge and/or handling of harassment or discriminatory situations are dealt with expeditiously and follow the guidelines of the Association.
Demonstrate on a continual basis the support of, adherence to and compliance with the employee policies and rules of Florida Realtors.
The person selected for this position should:
Have Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Political Science or like field, from an accredited university.
Be totally dedicated to the ideals and goals of the Florida Realtors.
Be capable of working under stress.
Have demonstrated understanding with the legislative, regulatory and political process.
Have demonstrated experience in negotiations, and in building and maintaining collaborative relationships.
Have solid, direct experience in the governmental, legislative, executive and regulatory or political process at all levels.
Be capable of understanding the dynamics of a professional association.
Be a proven written and verbal communicator, and a public speaker who thinks and speaks well under pressure, articulating Florida Realtors positions in an impactful and persuasive manner to any audience.
Proven organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task while managing multiple projects and volunteer input.
Qualified to effectively oversee, manage and empower the staff of the Public Policy office.
Be able to travel extensively to fulfill the duties of the position.
Have the ability to present and manage budgets for the Public Policy office.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and effective utilization of Internet and Social Media.
