AUTM is the non-profit leader in efforts to educate, promote and inspire professionals to support the development of academic research that changes the world and drives innovation forward through technology transfer. In this role, as a Marketing Manager, you will be employed by AUTM in support of its contract to run the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC), in charge of publications and awards programs. This a remote position and is open to candidates in all geographic areas, but applicants based in the Washington, DC or Chicago areas are preferred to facilitate more frequent meetings with other staff.

What you will do:
Provide writing, editing and support for all FLC editorial content and collateral, including, but not limited to, external member emails, social media posts, executive communications, brochures, newsletters and event program guides.
Write, edit and review for the FLC’s Annual Report to Congress and the President.
Manage the FLC’s Awards Program, including the writing and vetting of a 50-page national award document that profiles winners, as well as four smaller regional award documents.
Oversee FLC’s Success Story database, writing and editing new entries, liaising with labs regarding submissions, promoting the collection.
Create the FLC’s yearly calendar
Produce the FLC’s weekly email Digest to membership
Work with writers, copy editors and leadership to ensure that all publications are well-considered, analytically sound, and free from grammatical, spelling and mathematical errors.
Work with designers to provide guidance and oversight on format and layout during months-long iterative processes.
Ensure consistent adherence to professional writing standards and style guidance.
Coordinate and manage internal and external vendors and stakeholders (data managers, writers, copy editors, designers, volunteers, FLC leadership) to publish high-quality program publications within budget and deadlines.
Provide support as needed for advertisements, web content, articles, blog posts, emails and other communications.
Develop strategies to maximize effectiveness of campaigns to increase awareness and promotion on website and social media.
Support FLC and stakeholder marketing and promotion
Provide on site support at some meetings and events.
You have:
Proven writing and editing skills, and ability to recognize and articulate content development needs.
Ability to understand, analyze, edit, and distill for the layperson complex, scientific material in a wide range of areas.
Excellent time management skills and comprehensive attention to detail.
Able to successfully manage multiple projects and adhere (strictly) to all editorial and production schedules and deadlines.
Interpersonal skills and assertiveness needed to elicit cooperation from internal staff and external authors/writers, reviewers/copy editors, and volunteer content experts. Ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels
High energy and multi-task oriented, self-directed and ability to prioritize.
Self-motivated, self-starter with capacity to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Your qualifications:
A four-year degree in marketing, communications or journalism is preferred with a minimum 10 years practical experience in marketing, PR or similar field.
Demonstrated project management experience
Comfort working with website content management tools such as Kentico and basic HTML code.
Strong attention to detail and proofreading and working knowledge of Associated Press style.
Excellent oral and written skills including a command of English grammar, usage and vocabulary.
Strong proficiency and working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Ability to work as a team as well as independently.
Experience and sound judgment that allows you to plan and accomplish goals.
Team-player skills, drawing energy and enthusiasm from working with others.
