As the Chief of Staff, you will report to the President and CEO and directly supervise the Chief Policy Officer, Chief Learning Officer, Chief Diversity Officer, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, and Chief Advocacy Officer. With 61 employees and $27 million in annual revenue, ADEA is financially strong with an enduring business model and forward-thinking members who value transparency, accountability, diversity, access, and inclusion. Our members are working to address pressing health care challenges including reducing socioeconomic health disparities, increasing access to care, preventing opioid addiction, advancing interprofessional collaboration, and guiding health care policy changes at the international, national, and state level.
In this role, you will be building on our legacy of success and helping foster a culture of transparency, accountability, inclusion, collaboration, and mutual respect. You will coach and develop staff at all levels to help them find smarter ways to deliver even more value to our members and to better meet societal needs. You will lead the strategic planning process, implement new programmatic initiatives, and wisely allocate resources to best serve members while creating sustainable sources of revenue for ADEA. In your first year, some of your larger initiatives may include growing our international membership, developing deeper relationships with our industry partners, and increasing the transparency of how major decisions are made within ADEA. These innovations, and the continued growth of our ADEA Online Connect collaboration tool, will help to further build community with our members, give our members greater voice, build stronger member affinity for ADEA, and ultimately increase our grassroots engagement.
Your success in this role will flow from your business acumen, service mindset, and international perspective. You will help your colleagues balance how to best serve our members in a financially sustainable way. You will monitor external trends, incorporating best practices in association management. In this role, you will support the work of the entire association, working particularly closely with the following:
Chief Advocacy Officer to provide leadership on legislative issues impacting dental education and the health of the public.
Chief Communications and Marketing officer to communicate ADEA’s priorities and increase engagement from our members, connecting them with the credible, authoritative tools and information they need and promoting interest in the dental professions. (ADEA GoDental provides students interested in pursuing careers in dentistry and dental hygiene with the information they need to apply to programs, matriculate, and eventually fulfill their career goals.)
Chief Diversity Officer to develop and sustain an inclusive environment in which faculty, students, and administrators work together to create the future of dental education in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.
Chief Learning Officer to drive innovation and advance excellence in faculty development, helping to prepare graduates to be competent practitioners and lifelong learners.
Chief Policy Officer to provide members with critical policy information, data, and initiatives to support academic dental institutions in planning and decision-making. Senior Vice President of Human Resources to partner on human resources issues including staffing, professional development, performance management, and employee relations.
As the sole national organization representing academic dentistry, the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is the voice of dental education. ADEA members include more than 20,000 students, faculty, staff, and administrators from all 78 U.S. and Canadian dental schools, many allied and advanced dental education programs, and numerous corporations working in oral health education. Dental education is a varied profession that educates people as general dentists, specialists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and dental laboratory technicians.
ADEA fosters interconnected community experiences that enable members to meet their individual goals while leveraging their collective strength. Education is a dynamic process and science changes continually. Understanding and implementing change is key to improving the learning process and producing extraordinary dental practitioners. ADEA members determine best practices for dental education and encourage changes in dental education programs and institutions that will benefit everyone.
ADEA members come together to advocate effectively for public policy issues essential to dental educators and researchers, especially access to dental care, a necessary element to improved oral health. Since its founding in 1923, ADEA has existed to serve the curious student wondering how to become a dentist, the hardworking educator training the dental professionals of the future, and those striving for scientific or public policy improvements in oral health care.
