Job Summary
We have an immediate need for a Health Policy Project Manager to manage efforts related to coding and reimbursement. This will include maintenance of the sleep medicine code set and participation in the AMA CPT Editorial Panel and AMA/Specialty Society RVS Update (RUC) process on behalf of AASM. This person will also serve as a resource to our members for questions related to insurance coverage policies, current, and future payment programs, and other legislation impacting reimbursement.
The ideal candidate will be well-versed in medical coding and payer policies with coding/billingexperience through a medical facility or practice. Bonus points if you’ve worked at a medical specialty association and have AMA CPT and/or RUC experience.
Responsibilities and Duties
Serves as staff liaison to the Coding and Compliance Committee and Payer Policy Review Committee, as well as other related task forces as necessary
Responds to member inquiries related to coding and reimbursement
Develops and maintains educational resources and products related to coding, compliance, and reimbursement for the AASM membership
Researches new policies and legislation impacting sleep medicine reimbursement including, but not limited to, the Physician Fee Schedule and the Medicare Access and Chip Reauthorization Act (MACRA)
Develops member communications about changes in health policy initiatives and changes in the healthcare landscape that may impact the field of sleep medicine
Serves as an additional staff representative to the AMA RUC and CPT - facilitating physician participation in the process of submitting and reviewing code change proposals and recommending appropriate values for sleep services, as well as educating members on the RUC survey process
Helps maintain relationships between the Academy and other groups, societies, and associations with related interests
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university
Understanding of medical coding and payer policies (Medicare and private payers)
Minimum 3 years’ experience with coding/billing issues through a medical facility or practice or a medical specialty society
Familiarity with the AMA CPT Editorial Panel and RVS Update Committee processes
Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects at one time; strong organizational skills required
Demonstrated proficiency with project management and administration
Excellence in written, verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, payer policies, or governmental regulations
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from members, payers, and the general public
Ability to travel up to 15%

Medical coding certification or credential (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, or CCA)
